8 months old today!
I can't believe it. I think I say that every month though. He's just grown so fast (remember he was 5 lbs. 4 oz at birth) that it's unbelievable to think how much he's changed in such a short period of time. Ok, here's the lowdown on Dax:
- He weighs 20 lbs. 8 oz (went to pedi yesterday). His weight gain has slowed down now thank goodness. I thought he might end up being like his dad and weighing 30 lbs. at age 1.
- Not sure of his height since we didn't check that but his pants are starting to get a little short so I think he's definitely grown. I'll know at his 9 month check up.
- He eats 3 meals a day and drinks 3 bottles a day. He still loves veggies more than fruit. He enjoys yogurt but only flavored yogurt. DO NOT try to give him plain yogurt or else you will get the pursed lips and the stare down from him. Oh, and call him Popeye because he loves his spinach!
- He drinks pretty well from his straw cup. He now reaches for it and grabs it off the table and sticks the straw in his mouth. He loves to drink water.
- He is still not crawling and doesn't really have any desire to. He does reach pretty far from a sitting position and will end up with one knee under him but doesn't last very long before he either cries or flops down onto his belly and rolls over.
- Speaking of rolling over, he still refuses to roll from his back to tummy. He will roll to his side but then, when he realizes the rest of the way will end with him on his tummy, he rolls back. And he still hates being on his tummy. Any time we put him there he rolls to his back within seconds. I have to fight with him to stay on his tummy for a bit so he can practice pushing up.
- When he pushes up he doesn't last very long either. He's got a lot of weight to hold up people, and I don't think his arms/shoulders are strong enough yet.
- On the flip side, he loves being on his feet, standing, practicing walking. In fact, sometimes he won't even bend to sit back down because he wants to be standing. Kinda cute and kinda frustrating and exhausting at the same time.
- He's been sick with a lot of congestion this month and got his first ear infection a few weeks ago.
- As per the previous post, he now has his first two bottom teeth and he's so cute with them. I love his smile even more now.
- We have just moved him to his new convertible car seat from his infant seat. He was just starting to look a little too squished in there. It might have been the extra layers with the cold weather, but we did it anyway. He now looks like such a big boy in his big seat and it scares me to not have him as protected as he was in the infant seat.
- Speaking of clothes, he is wearing 6-12 month clothes. He just outgrew the ones that were 6-9 so he's in the 9-12. Because of his cloth diaper, I even bought him some 12-18 month pants. They're a little big in the waist and length, but it's just hard to find pants to fit him.
- His hair is getting super long. Even has a bit of a rattail in the back, but I'm trying not to cut it until he's 1. We'll see how long we can go.
- That's it! I'll post a pic in a couple of days!

Look Ma...I got teeth!

Ok, so I know I haven't posted in a while and this post is really overdue. I just seem to be really busy these days. But I couldn't let one more day pass without posting about Dax's new teeth. About 3 weeks ago, the first one finally broke through and the second one about a week later. And oh, how I hate teething! The crying, no napping child is not fun. But at least he did continue to sleep during the night after a 20-30 minute crying fit fest and lots of reassuring. He's also been going through some kind of separation anxiety because he screams when we are no longer in his sight. A little normalcy has returned these days but he's also been fighting off a cold. Ugh, now I know why this month has been so busy. Will post more with an 8 month update soon!

Dax's First Christmas (a little late)
It was a wonderful Christmas. My family came over for lunch and to hang out. Dax got to spend some time with his cousins, aunt and uncle, and grandma which was nice. Before that though was the gift opening. I just couldn't wait. We first showed him his gifts from Santa which were all put together and ready for him. He loved his farm! Then came all the gifts the I so nicely wrapped. I couldn't wait for him to want to tear into that paper and discover the toy inside. I had actually read that this is a fun activity for babies his age so I thought he would love it. Well, not so much. Whenever he would hear the paper tear, he would cry. And not just a few tears, but all out wailing! At first we thought it was something else. So we fed him, took off his tight jeans, etc. and tried again. Nope, the crying continued. We did get a few pictures of him enjoying the paper but then had to stop and I had to open all his gifts for him. Very carefully I might add so as to not start another screaming fit. Oh well. All in all it was a great day and a lot of fun. Hope you enjoyed your first Christmas Dax. Gotta get you ready for your first birthday!
